Did You Know Plants Contain Protein?!

Author hold doughnut with the words happy on it.

It is my birthday month! Typically, I would be planning some kind of elaborate themed par-tay for myself because I absolutely love a THEMED anything! Okay, now I just peaked my own curiosity. Please leave a comment and let me know which category you would put yourself in, either: “yes, can’t wait to get wacky and dress up in a costume” or “no thanks, I’m much more of a party popper.” Just know I still love and appreciate you even if you put yourself in the “party pooper” category. Anyway, this year I am taking it down a notch because my husband and I are going on an international adventure soon so I am saving up all of my party-vibes for that week. Instead, this year my plan is to light some candles on a giant glazed donut and eat it while watching a movie snuggled in a blanket. Which is an ideal night in my opinion.

Even though I am having a low-key birthday this year, I still wanted to do something special and I decided I would like to do something for YOU! Since I am turning 33, I decided on March 28th I will be giving everyone my online program, The Plant-Powered Approach, for 33% off! In addition, each Plant-Powered Approach that is purchased, I will be donating to either a local food pantry or animal shelter, the choice will be decided by YOUR votes! This deal is only good for 24 hours on March 28. You could start improving your health while contributing to a much needed cause, that is a major WIN/WIN!

When I created the Plant-Powered Approach, I was dreaming of helping as many people as possible…

  • Understand the benefits of eating plant-based
  • Address their current behaviors and habits around food
  • Learn how to build better behaviors and habits to make long-lasting dietary changes
  • Learn about nutrition and how food effects the way your body functions
  • How to be a more mindful and conscious eater
  • Go PLANT-BASED!

I have to apologize in advance for one thing. If you do decide to start going plant-based, there is one single question that will plague you. I guarantee you will be asked, not once, but many times, to the point where it will haunt your dreams. Drum roll please, the question is… If you don’t eat meat, how are you going to get enough protein?

I am sharing this with you because I have heard this question over and over again as someone who eats plant-based and is also a plant-based nutritionist. So, I am taking this opportunity to address the giant, uninvited, relentless elephant in the room.

1. Plant-based does NOT mean you have to eliminate meat and dairy from your diet. You could if you choose to do that, but plant-based simply means lowering the amount of animal products you eat and increasing the plant foods. Reducing animal products NOT Eliminating. Oh that feels good to get that off of my chest.

Okay, number two agenda item…

2. Plants contain a plethora of protein! Not all protein is created equal, same for animal protein sources so I am not going to go into every detail about complimentary and complete plant proteins in this post. I will address that next month so make sure to read April’s blog!

Protein gets a lot of attention in the nutrition world and it should! Quick story, to this day my dad (shout out to my dad), will eat nuts or something with protein in it and 94 percent of the time he will says something along the lines of, “I’m getting my protein in.” Now, you do not have to announce it every time you are eating a protein source but as a nutritionist, I am proud of my dad for being conscious of his protein intake. Protein is a vital nutrient and plays many key roles in maintaining a well-functioning body so of course I have an entire section dedicated to this in my online program, The Plant-Powered Approach. The second part of my birthday gift to YOU is giving you a little sneak peek into the Proteins section of my program.

Save these pages and use the lists to help you start incorporating more plant foods into your meals and snacks!

The Plant-Powered Approach includes food resources and recipes.

The more information you know, the better equipped you are to make informed decisions about your health which is why the main takeaway from today’s post is that plants contain protein! I Hope this helps get you started going plant-based! And if you found these pages helpful, go download  The Plant-Powered Approach on March 28th using CODE: BDAY2023 to receive 33% off!
